Functions of Cell Organelles

Nucleus:  Contains DNA and controls the activities of the cell.

Cell membrane: Controls what goes in and out of the cell.

Cell wall:  Strengthens and protects the cell.

Cytoplasm: Jelly-like structure where are all chemical reactions in the cell takes place.

Chloroplast: Contains chlorophyll to absorb sunlight for photosynthesis

Vacuole: Contains cell sap and controls the size of the cell.

Ribosome: Where protein is produced/synthesis.

Mitochondria: Where respiration takes place to produce energy.

Task 1

Compare the parts of the factory to the different organelles in a cell.

Comparing Plant and Animal cells

Similarities

They both have a nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm, ribosomes, and mitochondria.

Task 2

State the differences between plant and animal cells.

Answers

Task 1

Control room = nucleus

Engines = mitochondria

Production section = ribosomes

Factory floor = cytoplasm

Walls = cell wall

Task 2

Plants cells have permanent vacuole, cell wall and chloroplast but animal cells don’t
