About David Mensah

I am the Director of Learning for STEM at a secondary school in Southeast London, rated ‘Good’ with an ‘Outstanding’ Sixth Form. In this role, I oversee the teaching and learning of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics across the school. I am also the Physics Lead for the Academy Trust my school is part of. As a specialist in Physics and Chemistry, I am deeply passionate about my subjects and find great joy in teaching them.

I hold a First-Class degree in Natural Sciences, a PGCE in Secondary Science, and a Distinction in MA Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education from King’s College London. My greatest professional satisfaction comes from seeing young people apply their science capital to address real-world problems.

I believe that the ultimate purpose of education is to develop lifelong learners—individuals who think creatively, embrace risk, and take responsibility for the world around them.

I bring over 15 years of experience teaching science in mainstream secondary schools across London. I teach all three sciences—Biology, Chemistry, and Physics—from Key Stage 3 to GCSE and specialize in Physics and Chemistry at A-level and within the IB Diploma Programme. In my current role, I lead the interdisciplinary teaching and learning strategy across STEM subjects, coordinating cross-departmental teams to develop innovative schemes of work that integrate real-world issues such as climate change, food and water security, pandemics, and artificial intelligence. These projects aim to foster students’ creativity and critical thinking.

Additionally, I am responsible for tracking student progress and implementing targeted intervention programmes to support academic achievement. With over a decade of experience in private tuition for science and mathematics, I have established a strong reputation for helping students achieve their academic goals and preparing them thoroughly for GCSE and A-level examinations.

My tutoring approach is experiential and adaptive, with lessons tailored to each student’s individual needs and prior knowledge. I use structured and exam-style questions to scaffold learning and reinforce key concepts. Regular mini-assessments and homework are reviewed to set clear targets and apply strategies for improvement. I also use simulations and modelling tools to enhance students’ investigative skills and coach them on effective revision techniques, time management, and building subject confidence.
